Where to find free images for your website

Good photos make a site. These free libraries have thousands you can use.

Good images make a big difference to your website, your social media and your marketing. Stock photos can be expensive, though, and searching for the right one takes time.

The good news is there are excellent free image libraries online. Here are our favourites.

Pexels

Pexels has a large collection of high-quality, royalty-free photos and videos. It's organised into categories, so browsing is easy, and you can make simple edits before you download.

Unsplash

Unsplash has a huge, varied collection of photos that are free to use, including for business. You can search by keyword or browse curated collections.

100% Pure New Zealand

If you're in tourism, we always recommend Tourism New Zealand's image library. It has beautiful, high-quality photos of New Zealand that are free to use, as long as you follow the terms of use, licence and expiry dates for each image.

More free options

Pixabay, StockSnap and Canva's free photo library are also worth a look.

Read the terms

Free doesn't always mean free for anything. Check each library's terms so you know how you're allowed to use the images, and whether you need to credit the photographer.

One last tip

Make your images smaller before you upload them. Big files slow your site down. Squoosh is a free tool that shrinks them in seconds.
